Cosmetology

Tecahers: Mrs. Lavelle, Ms.Larriu

Cosmetology includes classroom and practical experiences concerned with a variety of professional care treatments, including the beautification of hair and skin care. Instruction includes training in giving shampoos, rinses, scalp treatments, hair styling, setting, cutting, coloring, tinting, bleaching, fitting wigs, permanent waving, facials, manicuring, hand and arm massaging. Scientific knowledge related to bacteriology, anatomy, hygiene, and sanitation is emphasized. Additional instructions in the areas of small business (salon) management, record keeping, and customer relations are also provided in this course. Instruction is designed to qualify students for the licensing examination.

Students in this shop work on each others' skin, hair and nails for their grade and a manikin which is always available to them for practice. Occasionally other students from the school who are unrelated to the shop and even outside visitors indulge themselves in the pampering of the work cosmetology students do. This allows the future cosmetologists to get a feel of working with an actual customer instead of their fellow classmates.

Within this beautifying career path, future cosmetologists are able to leave high school with knowledge and expectations of their future.
